Longhorns Have Big Night At Coolray With JV and Varsity Wins

Last night was a special night.  Not only did the JV and Varsity both have the honor and privilege of playing at Coolray Field (Home of the Gwinnett Stripers), but both teams walked away with wins!!!
 
The JV Horns beat St. Pius 2-1 and the Varsity Horns beat St. Pius 5-1.
 
For the JV, Joey Bellagamba went 5 1/3  awesome innings on the hill allowing only 3 hits, 0 runs, and striking out 8 before handing the ball over to Caleb Fones to close it out in the 6th and 7th.  Fones went 1 2/3 innings allowing only 1 hit, 0 earned runs, and striking out 2.
 
The offense was led by Diego Rubio (2-2 with a run), and Jason Nisi (1-1 with 2 RBI's)
 
With the win, the JV improve to 3-3 on the season!!

For the Varsity, it was pitching by committee.  Zachary Murray started the game and went 2 innings allowing 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 4.  Next was Jeremy Scott.  Scott went 1 inning allowing 1 hit and 0 runs.  Next was Chase Niekro.  Niekro went 1 inning allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 2.  Next was Ethan Davis.  Davis went 1 inning allowing 2 hits, 1 run, and struck out 1.  Next was Jose Santiago.  Jose went 1 inning allowing 0 hits and 0 runs.  Closing it out was Mikey Kass.  Kass came in for the 7th inning allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, and struck out 2.
 
The offense was much like the pitching where everyone played a part.  The offense was led by Andrew Walton (1-1 with a walk, Sac Fly, 1 R, 1 RBI), Chase Coursey (1-2 with a double), Ben Saxon (1-2 with a single and 1 run), Ethan Cole (1-2 with an RBI double).  Sean Murphy (1-2 with an RBI single), Jake Hay (1-1 with an RBI double), Joey Bellagamba (1-1 with a double and a run), and Mason Friedel (1-1 with a single).
 
With the win, your Varsity Longhorns finish the non-region schedule at 6-9.  We open up region on Monday as we travel to Gainesville for game 1 of a 3 game series.  First pitch is at 5:55pm.

Lanier defeats Norcross 2-1 in 8

Last night, your Varsity Longhorns improved to 5-8 by defeating Norcross 2-1 in 8 innings.
 
Jackson Marcantel started on the bump.  He went 3 innings allowing only 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 2.  He handed the ball to Freshmen Caleb Fones.  Fones threw 2 great innings allowing 2 weak hits, 0 earned runs, and striking out 2.  Fones gave way to Jeremy Scott in the 6th inning.  Scott absolutely dealt going 3 innings allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, and striking out 6 to get the win.
 
The offensive effort was led by Andrew Walton (1-2 with an RBI single, 2 walks, 1 ROE, and 1 run), Ben Saxon (2-4 with a double and an RBI single), Ethan Cole (1-3 with a single), and Chase Coursey (1-3 with a single).
 
Lanier struck first by scoring a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  Norcross punched back in the top of the 5th with a run of their own to tie the game.  Fast forward to the bottom of the 8th inning.  Andrew Walton led off the inning by reaching 1B on an error by the shortstop.  Anthony Prince entered the game as a pinch runner for Walton.  After a fly out, Jason Nisi reached 1B on another error by the shortstop, advancing Prince to 2B.  With 1 out and men on 1B and 2B, Ben Saxon stepped up to the plate.  To see the end of the game, check out the video on our Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook page!!!!!

The 9th Grade and JV games vs Peachtree Ridge today have been cancelled.  Make up date is TBA.
 
Tomorrow, your Varsity Longhorns hope to be in action as we host Shiloh.  Game time is 6:00pm.
 
Reminder that the JV and Varsity games vs St. Pius X at Coolray Field (The Gwinnett Stripers stadium) has been cancelled today and is rescheduled for next Wednesday 3/11.

Lanier Longhorns Varsity Clinches Lead in Eighth Inning for Victory Over Johns Creek

Last night, your Varsity Longhorns beat Johns Creek 5-3 in 8 innings.

The winning pitcher was Chase Niekro (1-0). Chase came in in relief in the 3rd inning and to say he was "lights out" is an understatement. He went 5 2/3 innings allowing 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 BB’s, 3 K’s.  He threw 55 total pitches... only 11 of them were balls!!!!  It was an awesome sight to watch Niekro work last night!!

Top offensive players on the night were: Ben Saxon (2-5 single, double & a run), JJ Jessee (1-3 double, 2 walks & 2 runs), Mikey Kass (1-2 single, walk, hit by pitch, 1 run & 2 RBI), Chase Niekro (1-1 single, 1 Run & 1 RBI), & Zachary Murray (1-2 single), Andrew Walton (1-3 single and a walk), Matthew Laughlin (1-3 single & 1 RBI).

The Varsity is now 1-3 on the season.  We host Peachtree Ridge at Lanier on Saturday for a 12pm & 3pm doubleheader.

Lanier Drops Season Opener To Flowery Branch

Zachary Murray & Jeremy Scott threw for Lanier. Murray went four innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, while striking out five.  Scott went two innings allowing only one hit, one earned run, and striking out two.

  • Andrew Walton went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Lanier in hits.
  • Lanier falls to 0-1 on the season and travels to Roswell to take on the Hornets on Friday.  Game time is 5:55pm.

Scrimmage vs GAC today **Cancelled**

We will make up our scrimmage tomorrow @ GAC at 5:00pm
